OUR STORY

From Tampa roots.
Toward a shared future.

Close the Gap began as a student-led community initiative. Its next chapter is being shaped by the same belief: connection can help make care more accessible.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Milinda Florvela

Founder · MD/MPH student

Haitian roots. A commitment to community.

The person behind
the purpose

Milinda Florvela is a first-generation Haitian MD/MPH student at Ross University School of Medicine. Her interests in health equity, public health, advocacy, and community engagement guide Close the Gap’s next chapter.

After organizing local events in Tampa, the initiative paused as other responsibilities grew. Today, Milinda is reimagining the work for North Miami and Miami-Dade—with community voices at the center.

Close the Gap’s approach is grounded in listening, making information understandable, and building practical connections to care and everyday resources.

OUR MISSION

Make the next step
more reachable.

Help close gaps in access to health information, community resources, and care through culturally responsive education, navigation, and collaboration.

OUR VISION

A community where
support feels closer.

Communities where language, knowledge, transportation, and other barriers do not prevent people from finding the support they need.

HOW WE PLAN TO WORK

Listen. Educate. Connect.
Follow up. Keep learning.

Our next milestone is a community-informed partner network, an initial North Miami event, and an assessment of a small Health at Home pilot.

OUR NEXT CHAPTER STARTS WITH YOU
